The International Care Leavers' Convention 2020 and NuSocia
Care Leavers are young persons who have lived in institutional care as a child and have left care at the vulnerable age of 18 years. For the first time ever, an International Care Leavers' Convention to give voice to the Care Leavers from different parts of the world including Australia, Asia, Europe, Africa and Americas where they would share their experiences of being in care and transition and also interface with different actors, practitioners and experts. The Convention is scheduled on November 23rd- 25th as a virtual event organised by Udayan Care, University of Hildesheim, Germany, Kinderperspectief and SOS Children’s Villages. NuSocia is proud to be associated with the event as a knowledge partner in organising the whole event.
About the Video
Dr. Kiran Modi is the Founder and Managing Trustee of Udayan Care, working across 27 cities across 14 states of India. To date, Udayan Care has nurtured over 25,000 young minds and run 17 Family homes(“Udayan Ghars”). In this video, she talks about Care Leavers and their need of support. She mentions their research in India on Care Leaving, done in partnership with UNICEF and Tata Trusts and how collaborating with other Care Leaving Organisations led to the idea of the International Care Leavers' Convention.
