Dear Patron,
India ranks 123 on the Gender Inequality Index, measured on three dimensions - reproductive health, empowerment, and labor market participation. Gender equality is not just a fundamental human right but also a cornerstone for a harmonious, prosperous and sustainable world.
Women and girls represent half of the world's population and therefore also half of its potential. Closing gender gaps can potentially add $12 trillion to the global GDP by 2025 through increased women's labor force participation. There has been progress over the last decades, but the world is not on track to achieve gender equality (SDG 5) by 2030.
In the Shadows of Climate Change
Climate change not only perpetuates but also aggravates gender inequalities. Women form over 65% of the agri-food workforce and manage 70% of global water chores. Climate change jeopardizes their livelihoods, health, education and empowerment. However, women and girls are not just climate victims; they are powerful drivers in responding to climate change.
In our latest episode of NuSocialogy, Silvia Sartori, Women in Energy Senior Expert at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) explains why women need to be at the heart of climate action.
